Ciara's Story

Siobhan's Story

At Mini Swimming, we group our swimmers into two main categories.  Each of these categories has its own qualifications and training requirements.

Each category we deliver fun and high-quality lessons whilst ensuring we are passing on our knowledge to the next generation of swimmers.  We write your schemes of work and lesson plans for you so you simply need to ensure you have the knowledge and passion to deliver the lesson.

Baby and Pre-SchoolThese are parent and child classes for children aged 0 to 3.5 years

If you would like to lay the skills and foundations of a baby’s swimming journey in a really fun and enjoyable environment. This is the qualification for you

Academy In these classes, the children are in the pool on their own and are aged 3.5 to 10 years.

What skills/attitudes do you need to be a swimming teacher?

In order to become a Mini Swimming teacher you absolutely need to have a warm, welcoming and friendly personality.  You must have a passion for swimming and teaching children.  We really do care!  You will need to have a strong work ethic and give it your very best as it is what the children deserve.  Mastering your craft will give you the skills you need to inspire the next generation of swimmers.

What does the training involve?

Your training will involve some shadowing where you will watch what the teacher is doing, some gentle involvement of activities under the supervision of the teacher moving onto more teaching as your skills, knowledge and confidence grows.

When will the training take place?

Training will take place in our ongoing lessons, your senior teacher will write you a training plan that will allow you to shadow and train alongside our existing teaching teams.

How much will I get paid?

Our swimming teachers are paid depending on their knowledge and experience. We pay you for all of your pool training until you are signed off to teach independently.  You can expect to be offered £13.00-£16.00 per hour once qualified and signed off. We will then review your pay rate each 12 months.

Your examination courses can be completed in a 3-5 day period, this can be a mixture of online, in class and in pool training.  We would also expect that you complete c30 hours of in pool training. Training time is paid.

What does the training cost?

As the external courses for your examination are delivered through an independent training provider, the price can vary. Mini Swimming will cover the cost of your training providing a contract is signed to agree that you will work solely for us for a minimum of 12 months.  If for any reason you are unable to complete the 12 months employment.  Unless it has been previously agreed otherwise, the full cost of the course will be repayable to us by yourself.

When would I work and how often?

We run classes 7 days a week all year (With the exception of 5 weeks holiday – Usually 1 at Easter, 2 weeks in August & 2 at Christmas).  Our Baby & Preschool classes run during the day (Usually 8.30-3.30) plus weekends.   Our Academy classes are 3.30 onwards and also weekends.

We want to allow a great work/life balance but you must remember that is the same for everybody.  This means that if you want to work 9-2 then so do most of the team.  We want to make it fair for everybody. With this in mind we would ask that if you were offered an ‘in demand shift’ then we would like you to take on an evening or weekend shift also.

This is all dependent on what qualifications/training you have.
