Mini Swimming Trainee Teacher 

Mini Swimming are looking for new trainee teachers to join our expanding team. We are looking to recruit at least one new trainee teachers to work at least 3 shifts per week, across our Colchester pools. The successful candidate will obtain full in pool and professional qualification training. We will also consider a qualified swimming teacher (STA Award or equivalent). The shift patterns would be as follows:-

Either Saturdays or Sundays – Co-teaching (once trained)

and 2 Weeknight shifts per week – between 3.30-7pm (nights to be confirmed)

The role would be aimed at teaching primary school aged children from 4 years to 11 years.

This is not a school day job so please do not apply if you are looking for just a school hours job. Classes run up to 47 weeks of the year, in our Colchester pools.

This is an all year round role and not suitable to University students who do not live year round in Colchester.

Candidates must have a passion for working with children and a love of swimming. Experience of working with children or high level competitive swimming personally is a must.

Candidates do not need to have the qualifications as yet as extensive pool training and professional training will be given.

Candidates must be really willing to work hard, learn and master their new craft and be committed to being the absolute best teacher possible. Candidates will be assigned a mentor to guide and develop them but they must bring to the party the effort and energy to practice and learn at home to boost their pool efforts.

Mini Swimming Apprenticeship Scheme 2024

 

Mini Swimming are looking for enthusiastic and energetic candidates to join our expanding team as apprentices to be nurtured and fully trained. 

Apprentice 1 – Full Time 30+ hours per week

Apprentice 2 – Part Time 10-15 hours per week

 

Apprenticeship 1

There are three key areas of work the new team member will cover; Swimming teaching – babies and preschool, Swimming Teaching – Academy Classes, and Front of House. You will act as a Swimming Teacher and Front of House for our swimming families amongst other operational duties.

You will be aged between 18 and 20.

You will achieve your STA Baby preschool Course, STA Award course, STA Safety Award for teachers as part of this apprenticeship, as well as full inhouse training.

Your duties will include:

Provide exceptional customer service to all members

  • Support the swim teaching team to deliver exceptional swimming lessons
  • Adopting a customer service focussed approach to your responsibilities
  • Safe and effective pool supervision
  • Effective communication with other team members

Progression within the company is a core value, and on completion of your apprenticeship you will have plenty of opportunities to progress and develop within the company.

 

Apprenticeship 2 

For this apprenticeship you will train as a Swimming Teaching for our Academy Classes and teach children aged 4 years + amongst other operational duties.

You will be aged between 16-19.

You will achieve your STA Award course and STA Safety Award for teachers as part of this apprenticeship, as well as full inhouse training.

Your duties will include:

Support the swim teaching team to deliver exceptional swimming lessons

Desired Skills

To be considered for this role, you must be a strong and confident swimmer. If you are invited to interview for this role you will be required to complete a swim test as part of the interview process. In order to be considered for the role you must be able to demonstrate you are able to do the following. • Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds in a recognised stroke • Swim 100 metres continuously in a recognised stroke on front and back in deep water and then tread water for 30 seconds • Surface dive to floor of pool (deepest part).

 

Candidates will be assigned a mentor to guide and develop them but they must bring to the party the effort, energy and enthusiasm to practice and learn at home to boost their pool efforts.

Qualifications required

No formal qualifications are required for this role. A passion for swimming and teaching children to swim is essential!

At Mini Swimming you will work towards achieving the above over the course of 12 Months.

 

Please note you will be required to work on a shift basis, including mornings, evenings and weekends, across all of our pools (mainly based in Colchester).

 

Rates of Pay

 

Salary of £192.00 per week (Apprentice 1),

£65- £97.50 per week (Apprentice 2 and 3), then £12-£15 per hour after 12 months.
