Welcome to the September 2022 Newsletter
We can not, of course, start off talking about this month without mentioning our wonderful late Queen Elizabeth II. Our office and pools all shut down on Monday 19th September in order for us to respect her passing and funeral. It was a very sad day indeed. We were delighted to have had the opportunity back in July to spend the week celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with lessons all themed around her… Looking to the future.. Coronation lesson plan ideas for King Charles are being conjured up as you read.
Thank you to all of our swimmers for working very hard over the month. We have welcomed many of our school starter swimmers into after school classes. They have handled the transition well and look forward to them progressing even further in their new classes. I hope you are settling in and enjoying your new schools and new classes with us.
September, on the whole, has been an extremely proud month for us. We are thrilled to have won BEST SWIM SCHOOL 2022 at the Essex Mums awards. So, so many people voted for us, which has made us extremely proud. We really do appreciate each and every one of your votes. Thank you!
Early September, we launched our third swimming pool in Colchester. Classes are now running at the Colchester County High School for Girls. At 25m long, this pool is just perfect for progressing the children’s stamina and strokes. We have all been so impressed with how well the children have adapted to the big pool and we have seen some fabulous swimming. If your child is an Advanced Sea Turtle Level or above, and you would like to trial this class for FREE please do let us know, we would be happy for you to come along.

Once again we’ve had lots of learning fun in the pool throughout September. Some of our favourite theme weeks have passed, including:
Water Confidence – This lesson we worked on using using the * Palmer Grasp Reflex
Allow the water to support the baby’s body. They feel the resistance of the water – anticipating the sensations of swimming. We included a travelling submission and holding the bar practise.
London Week – We worked on smooth transitions from front to back swimming. Gently working on confidence to relax on our backs. We also had some swimming on our tummies, using lateral rolls onto our backs changing direction, speed.
Pirate week – Captain Duck was introduced this week. We saw some super pirates all getting dressed up using eye patches. Captain Duck wanted us to find the hidden treasure, we used independence confidence on our woggles and practised reaching forward to collect as many coins as possible. Core muscles we worked on when we sailed on the stormy ship!
Singing in the Rain – We all worked on our front swimming propulsion in a little harbour hold. We used a crawling action with our arms to move through the water. The little journey saw the children travel between two floats in a submersion. We played with watering cans to create rainfall and jumped into thunderstorms.

Academy Swimmers
Our Academy swimmers have been working hard on their front swimming, paddle and crawl Sea Turtle swimmers worked on their front and back paddle body position and their legs. We practised with sinkers in the water and push and glides. Our Advanced Sea Turtles were introduced to competitive push and glides, they worked on breaststroke arms then legs. Sealions, Dolphin and Whale classes worked also on their competitive starts and their body positions and we saw some super butterfly swimming!
W/C 22nd Sept we ran distance assessment week for our classes in Gladwins, Chelmsford, Lexden & Stanway. Our child-only swimmers had the opportunity to achieve a distance awards.
Should you wish to purchase one, the slips, envelopes and buckets will be poolside for a couple of weeks. Alternatively, pop into the Stanway pool anytime.
The cost of the certificate inc postage is £2.70
(If you wish to purchase the certificate only this is £1.20)
Please bring cash.
If you swim at the Stanway pool you can purchase this on your way out and not pay the postage
No badges for distances, certificates only.
Everybody worked very hard this month and we look forward to seeing your progression in Oct

I’ve been married to my beautiful wife Anna since 2014. We have two wonderful kids (sometimes!) Alexander and Sofia both have been swimming at Mini Swimming since they were 6 weeks old and still love their weekly lessons.
I joined in 2013 coming from a very different background in tourism & heritage. I have taught across all sites but for the most part, I am now based in the Stanway and Lexden Pools. I am the Head of Operations and a Senior Teacher here at Mini Swimming.
I have loved getting to know the kids and their families it’s very fulfilling, not only teaching a life skill but being part of a bigger Mini Swimming family

Laura Bass who work at the Columbus College Pool
Laura has been building some great relationships with her swimmers. She has taken on a extra days teaching and showed great dedication to the team in offering cover where needed.
We also awarded the whole team at the Colchester County High – Everybody working here has taken on the new pool with the willingness and effort it deserves. We are extremely proud of everybody involved.

Baby Bonding and Introduction to swimming course
Are you or somebody you know due to have a baby soon, or had a baby recently.
This will be a six week course specifically tailored to our tiniest swimmers aged 6 weeks to 4 months. The class is all about a gentle and calm introduction to baby swimming full of lots of special activities just for our tiny ones and it will be a beautiful bonding experience. Taught by our most experienced teachers we will have only 5 spaces per class and everyone will start together. At the end of the classes the babies will move into a starfish class either with their new mummy friends or separately, whichever they prefer.

Private Hire
The pools in Lexden and Stanway are available for private hire.
Enjoy our beautifully warm pools all to yourself or share some swim time with a friend or family. There is a maximum of 4 adults and 4 children for any booking in most cases. The pool is exclusively yours for one hour including changing time. We offer private hire as a one-off ad-hoc event or a repeated booking at the same time every week for 6 weeks. The benefit of booking in blocks of 6 is that firstly it’s cheaper per session and secondly your slot is reserved for you for the weeks beyond your 6 weeks. We always give our regular slot bookers first opportunity to book again before the slot is released for others to book in.
All £50 for one hour[/et_pb_text][et_pb_button button_url=”https://bookings.gettimely.com/MiniSwimming” button_text=”Booking” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” custom_button=”on” button_bg_color=”#F05B85″ button_border_width=”0px” button_use_icon=”off” custom_padding=”10px|30px|10px|30px|true|true” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_button][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.17.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”|800|||||||” header_2_text_color=”#F05B85″ header_4_text_align=”left” header_4_font_size=”36px” text_orientation=”justified” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”||2px|||” header_2_font_size_tablet=”” header_2_font_size_phone=”30px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”on|phone” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Hall of Fame
At Mini Swimming we love to recognise brilliance. Our Hall of Fame is dedicated to our Swimmers of the Week, Highlights of the Week and Teacher Awards. If your child has had an award, we would love it if you can share their photo with their certificate with us so we can add them to the hall of fame. You can see it here.
Here are a few of our fabulous swimmers…
