Welcome to the January 2023 Newsletter
December has been a little bit of a blur – with all the festivities and a New Year thrown in!
We hope you all had an amazing Christmas and New Year
We were absolutely blown away by the number of cards, gifts, and well wishes from all of our swimmers. We never expect anything, but it is so lovely to know you have thought of us when buying all your teacher presents. A massive thank you to everyone who made our Christmas special and our waistlines a little bigger!
The 1st of December saw the launch of our spectacular Christmas Advent countdown prize giveaway! We gave away some mammoth prizes in the 24 days that lead up to Christmas day. We gave away: Annual Zoo Passes, John Lewis Vouchers, free lessons, Gift Hampers… to name but a few of the super prizes. A huge well done to all our winners and thank you all for taking part.

World Cup Week
Despite England’s ultimate defeat in the World Cup 2022, we had great fun playing ball games and scoring goals as we celebrated and wished England well. We were inquisitive and explored the balls, using our coordination to practise our ball chasing, and even managed some lovely flip-flop rotations. The bigger swimmers had a go at dribbling their balls across the “pitch” and had a go at being in goal. What a week!
Bathtime
It is always nice to return back to the basics with our bathtime lesson. We practised all the things we do in the bath; washing ourselves with our cups, kicking in the bath, chasing our ducks, and even having a play with the bubble bath! As we were taking it back to basics, our Seahorses practised their push and glides, being rockets across the pool. Push and glides are such an important skill to learn when progressing to independent swimming. The sooner the children are able to master body position the rest of the skills follow.
On the Move!
Our Monday and Tuesday swimmers managed to sneak an extra lesson into last term and we looked at movements and different ways to move. We hopped on to the bus, made ourselves into rockets and our babies were submarines as they submerged to the bar. Our Seahorses also practised motorbiking, speedboats and aeroplanes. If you swim on a Wednesday onwards, don’t worry! We will start the new year with this fun lesson plan.
CHRISTMAS!
We finished off the term with our infamous Mini Swimming Christmas Party plan. We helped to decorate our trees, sledge ride around the pool (practising our horizontal body position), ride the Reindeer Train and, if you were really lucky, you got to go down the Chimney Slide. We sang some classic tunes, such as Jingle Bells, Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer and We ‘Whoosh’ you a Merry Christmas – we had a brilliant time all round! What a way to start the festive period.

Academy Swimmers
Our academy swimmers worked hard at the beginning of December, when they did their distance assessments. Sea Turtles (and Mini Turtles) were assessed in front paddle, our advanced Sea Turtles and Dolphins did front crawl and our Sealions smashed their breaststroke.
If you still have your slip in your pocket or at the bottom of your bag, there are still certificates at Stanway which can be purchased for £1.20 – cash only I am afraid.
Our Monday and Tuesday swimmers then got an additional lesson where they practised their stroke development ready to hit the ground running in the New Year.
We jumped into celebrating Christmas with a lesson all about fun. Although we do share ideas together and some of us have done Christmas week a fair few times, our Christmas plan is mostly about our teachers (and assistants) giving their swimmers the best fun lesson they can to thank them for continuing to bring their A game all year and also to show them how appreciated they are. We saw more chimney slides, rides on Santa’s sleigh, races, competitions, ball games and lots of laughing! All our staff came away from Christmas week utterly exhausted, but with big smiles on their faces.

Looking ahead to the New Year
January will see us back to working hard! Our academy swimmers will begin their new term working towards their next assessment date (w/c 6th March). We will be concentrating extra hard this term on body position, which is actually the key to swimming success or failure. A flat body position in the water is key to being able to develop and harness the skills to make a competent and confident swimmer.
Our baby and preschool swimmers will start the term with the following lesson plans:

They will then finish the term on their first assessment week of 2023 (week commencing 23rd January).

Private Hire
The pools in Lexden and Stanway are available for private hire. We have the last few remaining slots for Christmas Availability also!
Enjoy our beautifully warm pools all to yourself or share some swim time with a friend or family. There is a maximum of 4 adults and 4 children for any booking in most cases. The pool is exclusively yours for one hour including changing time. We offer private hire as a one-off ad-hoc event or a repeated booking at the same time every week for 6 weeks. The benefit of booking in blocks of 6 is that firstly it’s cheaper per session and secondly your slot is reserved for you for the weeks beyond your 6 weeks. We always give our regular slot bookers first opportunity to book again before the slot is released for others to book in.
All £50 for one hour.

Mini Splash Time
Come and enjoy some swim time at the Lexden Pool. You may be looking to build on confidence, work on a particular skill , or simply enjoy some extra time in the water with your little one(s) . The Lexden Pool is heated to a beautiful 33 degrees. We have changing facilities and some pool toys for you to enjoy. Max of 6 sets of parents and children per session.
The cost is £7.00 for 1 hour for 1 adult and 1 child. £2.00 for an additional adult or sibling.
There is no teacher but there will be a lifeguard present.

We have a few slots for private lessons available, times and days below . A private lesson is one child with one teacher for 30 mins with the whole pool to yourselves. The cost is £33 per lesson or £185 for 6 booked together.

First baby swim
It has been a very busy month for First Baby Swim sessions and we loved welcoming Quinn, Bernard, Meryn, Esme, Lyla, Wilf, Bodie, Rehn, Alfie, Ottilie, Rory, Zoraya, Stanley, Jesse, Albie and Fred to Mini Swimming. They each enjoyed a private swim to start and are now booked into group classes. If you have a little one due or recently born we would love to welcome you too! Hall of Fame
All of our teachers are constantly looking for children in their classes who have achieved something for the first time or made a special effort in their classes. These special moments should be rewarded and our Hall of Fame is dedicated to our Swimmers of the Week, Highlights of the Week, and Teacher Awards. We try to take as many pictures as we can, but if your child has had an award and we didn’t manage to get a snap, we would love it if you can share their photo with their certificate with us so we can add them to the hall of fame.
You will see that we have fantastic new selfie frames at each of the pools too –
