June has been a really fun month for us all here at Mini Swimming!
After all of the fun of the Queen’s Jubilee, we went straight onto swimming with the Ducks, we practised the action of ‘Flip Flops’. This is a great skill to work on rotation in the water.
We used kickboards to work on our body positions in the water and chased the ducks around the pool encouraging kicking legs and arms reaching out in front.
Those of you brave enough to, had a go at an underwater submersion with your little ones. It’s a fantastic way to show them that under the water is not a scary place, and you can have lots of fun!
Moving on from ducks we went straight to down to the Wild West, ‘Yee-Hawwing’ around the pool practising safety holds and rotations. Learning to roll over in the water is a key safety skill!
Our older children galloped on horsies, working on their core muscles and balance, we had lots of independent swimming and some big splashy jumps in!
During the week commencing the 20th June, we moved onto balls and backs, these lessons work on propulsion in the water and recapping of rotation. Babies and children swam on their tummies and on their backs working on body position and kicking their legs in order to move through the water.
In the final week in June, our focus was front swimming. We practised Tug Boats. Parents and little ones worked together to ensure we had good balance and body position. Parents who were comfortable taking their feet off of the floor were able to enjoy a swim with their little ones.
Our youngest academy children have been working hard on front swimming and also their push and glides. We have worked on jumps into open water in which we saw some really great improvement in confidence. Our Sealions and Dolphins have been working on nailing their breaststroke techniques. We saw some great water skills work with sinkers and floating! Well done everybody; keep up the hard work!

Employee of the Month
This month we choose one outstanding employee of the month. This month’s prize goes to Bani, who is our cleaner in Colchester. Bani has worked lots of overtime and been very flexible with his working location. Hi there, I’m Ciara!
I’m really proud to be the Senior Assistant here at Mini Swimming. This is me with my very cuddly dog Wilbur.
Working with children is my passion and I adore being in the water. I used to beg to go swimming almost every day as a child! Mini Swimming doesn’t feel like a job at all as I have so much fun and get to do what I love.
I’ve learned so much over the years at Mini Swimming and love working in a team that shares my love of swimming with our swimmers and families.
Mini Swimming doesn’t feel like just a regular swimming school, it really feels like a family and I get so excited to see the teachers, swimmers, and their families each day!

Looking ahead to July
July will have so much fun in store for you all.
The first week in July takes us to Independence Day! We have lots of fun planned including a game of baseball, finishing off with some fireworks!
We will be having a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, a weather lesson, and ending with the Commonwealth Games! I am sure we will all see some great progression this month as we are working on all aspects of our swimming.
The academy children will be working on our front and back swimming. Water skills will see them practise their floating and treading water. Our more advanced swimmers will start work on their tumble turns. Private Lessons
We have a few slots for private lessons available, times and days below . A private lesson is one child with one teacher for 30 mins with the whole pool to yourselves. The cost is £33 per lesson or £186 for 6 booked together.

First baby swim
We loved welcoming: Erin, Ivy, Bear, Poppy, Harper, Arwyn, Felix, Ronald, Azaan, Matilda, Kitty, Cole, Brown, Arthur, and Theo in June to Mini Swimming. They each enjoyed a private swim to start and are now booked into group classes. New Beginner Classes Added
We have extended our Saturday teaching schedule out and have created new classes at our Stanway pool from 3 – 6pm for non-swimmers and improving swimmers. If you have a friend looking for lessons please pass along our details and remember that if they quote you when they book you will get two free classes as a thank you from us.
