What a Super Week
Back from the Easter break and we were onto Superheroes, our swimmers were working on their confidence for independent swimming on their fronts in various different holds such as the open safety hold, a front hold and independence on their woggles.
Did you manage to defeat the Evil Dr Duck?! We celebrated with jumps into the pool like Superman! We also had some brave super-submersions.

Submersions
Submersions are so important when learning to swim as we want children to be confident with being under the water, be it an intentional submersion or not. We do not force submersions, we want these to be a natural part of the child’s swimming class, we work through techniques and practices with your child to help them be happy to go under. Once we master breath control and popping our face into the water we can then achieve that streamline body position we need for independent swimming.
We work on accidental submerions as, of course, should your child ever fall into water, there will not be someone to say, ‘ABC’ as a cue to dive.

Employee of the Month
This month we chose Tilly, who works at Front of house at the Stanway pool. This month Tilly has offered lots of cover and worked incredibly hard to ensure we keep up with the fantastic customer service we provide. She regularly finds jobs for herself to make things better and has gone above and beyond and is fully deserving. I’m Jessie, one of the Teachers here at Mini Swimming.
I joined Mini Swimming in January 2019 having been to the lessons with my eldest when she was just 6 weeks old.
Both my girls have been swimming ever since and I can’t even begin to tell you how proud I am of their progress. Amelia became a Sealion at just 4 years old, the confidence she has gained is incredible. Ella (8yrs) has hyper flexibility which means she has a greater range of movements in her joints, making it difficult for her to control her movements at times, with the support and understanding of her swimming teachers she has progressed well gaining confidence and ability every lesson, she is currently a dolphin swimming with Sam and am very proud to say one of the most confident and determined swimmers in her class at school.
Since starting with Mini Swimming I have trained through the STA and completed my Level 2 Award in Aquatic Teaching – Baby Preschool, level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming and level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming and currently studying for my an STA Aquatic Tutor Status so I can train new swimming teachers. I am incredibly passionate about teaching little ones to swim not only from a fun perspective but also from a safety side, not only will they learn to be confident in the water but they will learn life saving skills that could one day be priceless. Seeing the children’s ability and confidence grow is the most rewarding part of my job and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Taking us into May we are working on the various techniques to improve our independence in the water, getting our littles ones used to the floats in order to gain more independence from you.
We have fun packed lessons in all ages and abilities, see below for the theme weeks we have coming up:

- Circus W/C 16th May
- Rainbows W/C 23rd may
- Ducks W/C 30th May

Academy Swimmers
Our Academy swimmers have been working hard on their push and glide. A swimmer who swims with correct technique can travel in water with their body as close as possible to the surface of water. Swimmers need to perform a variety of drills and practices to learn the correct technique of different strokes.
Skills should be taught correctly and practised regularly to make sure they are learnt properly. Not doing enough streamlining and gliding practices, especially when learners are at the early stages of learning to swim, can result in inefficient stroke development and bad swimming habits. Bad habits that swimming teachers get to see very often are lifting up the head out of the water (rather than turning head to the side) during side breathing when swimming front crawl, or taking a breath when swimming breaststroke in an uncoordinated fashion and out-of-sync with arms and legs. We regularly do drills which work on streamlining and gliding. In doing so, we are teaching correct technique, right from the beginning
On another note, well done to all the attendees who completed our Junior Lifeguard Course. You all worked incredibly hard on pool and land rescues as well as water safety and CPR.

We loved welcoming Max, Tallulah, Arthur, Henry, Cole, Arabella, Nora, Lexi, Imogen, Niamh, Edward, Rafello, Effie, Elias, Hugo, Leo, Theodore Elias and Felicity in April to swimming. They each enjoyed a private swim to start and are now booked into group classes. If you have a little one due or recently born the following dates are still available for May to June

Hall of Fame
At Mini Swimming we love to recognise brilliance. Our Hall of Fame is dedicated to our Swimmers of the Week, Highlights of the Week and Teacher Awards. If your child has had an award, we would love it if you can share their photo with their certificate with us so we can add them to the hall of fame. You can see it here.
Here are a few of our fabulous swimmers…

New Class Launch!
Are you or somebody you know due to have a baby soon, or had a baby recently? We are very excited to be launching a Baby Bonding and Swimming introduction course. This will be a six week course starting the 11th of May specifically tailored to our tiniest swimmers aged 6 weeks to 4 months. The class is all about a gentle and calm introduction to baby swimming full of lots of special activities just for our tiny ones and it will be a beautiful bonding experience. Taught by our most experienced teachers we will have only 5 spaces per class and everyone will start together. At the end of the classes the babies will move into a starfish class either with their new mummy friends or separately, whichever they prefer.
Thursdays at 12:00 pm and Wednesdays at 2:30 pm – Both in Lexden[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”rgba(10,0,2,0.07)” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” header_3_text_align=”left” header_3_font_size=”36px” header_4_text_color=”#00B1CA” text_orientation=”justified” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”||4px|||” global_colors_info=”{}”]
